When purchasing water pumps, choosing the size of the inlet and outlet is a critical step in ensuring the performance and efficiency of your pump. There are several factors to consider when deciding what size water pump to ensure it meets your actual needs. Determine the purpose of the pump, such as domestic water supply, agricultural irrigation, industrial applications, etc.
Based on the use, determine the required pump flow and head. For example, domestic water supply may require a lower flow rate and head, while agricultural irrigation or industrial applications may require a higher flow rate and head.

  1. Flow rate (Q): choose the suitable flow rate according to the actual demand, usually in m³/h, L/s, or t/h.
  2. Head (H): the pump needs to lift the height and distance of the water to select the head, in m units.
  3. Power (P): to ensure that the power of the selected pump can meet the demand, the greater the power, the stronger the performance of the pump is usually.
  4. Efficiency (η): the higher the efficiency of the pump, the lower the energy loss and the lower the operating cost.

What are the main types of water pumps?

  • Rural large farmland: the outlet diameter is usually around 2 inches (50mm). This size of the pump is suitable for larger farmland irrigation and can provide a larger flow rate to meet the irrigation needs of larger areas.
  • Large agricultural production that requires long hours of operation: the outlet diameter may exceed 3 inches (75mm). Agricultural production that runs for long periods requires higher flow rates and a more consistent water supply, so choosing a larger spout diameter ensures efficient pump operation.
